Building core-banking software on Avaloq, investing for the long run, and racing Hyrox.

I'm Gabriele, an Avaloq Software Engineer at Vontobel — before that, three years as a frontend engineer at Avaloq itself. I made the jump from mechanical engineering to software in 2019, and I'm a CFA charterholder who uses AI to do equity research.

My path

I studied building engineering and architecture, then spent years as a mechanical engineer at Arup in London, working on iconic buildings like the Oman Botanical Garden, commissioned by the country's royal family. About eight years ago I moved to Zürich and made the leap into software engineering — and I've been building software ever since.

Today, I'm an Avaloq developer at Vontobel, building the core-banking software that keeps the bank running.

01

Engineering

A decade of engineering — mechanical, then software — now building and implementing Avaloq's core-banking platform at Vontobel.

02

Investing

CFA charterholder investing for the long run: reading annual reports, sizing positions, and enjoying business books more than most people probably should.

03

Hyrox

Training for Hyrox races on the side — eight rounds of running split up by sled pushes, wall balls, and burpee broad jumps. A good counterweight to a desk job.
